Safety with Professional Dust Wipe Clearance Testing

Proof the unit is lead-safe before anyone moves back in

Dust wipe sampling collects settled dust from floors, window sills and window wells and sends it to an accredited lab to measure lead levels. After lead abatement, renovation or turnover work, dust wipe results show whether the space meets New York City’s dust-lead clearance standards — among the strictest in the country. Passing results are what allow a unit to be reoccupied and a related violation to be closed. Under NYC rules, post-abatement dust wipe clearance must be collected by a party independent of the firm that performed the lead work. If Exit Lead performs your abatement, we coordinate an independent clearance tester; if another contractor did the work, Exit Lead can perform the clearance testing.

Standards we work under: NYC dust-lead clearance standards (currently 5 µg/ft² for floors, 40 µg/ft² for window sills and 100 µg/ft² for window wells), NYC Local Law 1, HPD rules and NYC Health Code Article 173.
